| I think my computer is getting old | | I've had this one... a refurbbed used computer since Christmas 2005. I'm about to lost Internet support still running on Explorer 7. My functions are getting limited here.
Band-Aids have been getting a portable hard drive (150 GB)
So I either switch entirely to the laptop... or limp thru Christmas (oh joy) and get a new PC with my tax refund.
I should get a really good amount back next year... and that is going straight into my "Emergency Fund."
I just have a feeling.
So I guess the first thing I should do is download IE 8. I have so dropped off the technology map... I'm still on the back straightaway and no where near the curve. | |
| | beware of new computer viruses | | There have been a flux of new viruses lately and I just want to make sure you are aware of them and take great precaution. The George Bush Virus - Causes your computer to keep looking for viruses of mass destruction. The Ronald Reagan Virus - Saves your data, but forgets where it is stored. The Clinton Virus - Gives you a permanent Hard Drive with NO memory. The Al Gore Virus - Causes your computer to just keep counting and re-counting.The Bob Dole (aka Viagra) Virus - Makes a new hard drive out of an old floppy. The Lewinsky Virus - Sucks all the memory out of your computer, then e-mails everyone about what it did.The Arnold Schwarzenegger Virus - Terminates some files, leaves, but will be back. The Mike Tyson Virus - Quits after two bytes. The Oprah Winfrey Virus - Your 200 GB hard drive shrinks to 100 GB, then slowly expands to re-stabilize around 150 GB.The Ellen Degeneres Virus - Disks can no longer be inserted. The Prozac Virus - Totally screws up your RAM, but your processor doesn't care. The Joey Buttafuoco Virus - Only attacks minor files. The Lorena Bobbitt Virus - Reformats your hard drive into a 3.5 inch floppy... then discards... | |
| | . You are the administrator of a Windows 2000 Server | | . You are the administrator of a Windows 2000 Server
computer named FRServer. FRServer contains five hard
disks. Disks 0 and 1 are configured as a mirrored volume
and contain the operating system files. Disk 2, 3, and 4
are configured as a stripe set with parity volume and
contain 150 GB of data files. FRServer also contains a
tape backup device, which is used to make a full backup
of the data files every weekend.
Disk 2 fails on Tuesday. You replace disk 2 with a new
hard disk.
You need to return the stripe set with parity volume to
normal operation as quickly as possible. You also need to
minimize the amount of data lost.
What should you do?

| | Daughters of Eve? | | A friend of mine has paid for a Daughters of Eve genetic DNA test, which you can now do via the post and she is enthusiastically thinks the results are true and that we should all do one!The Daughters of Eve is a genetic theory developed by Brian Sykes to do with maternal ancestry. There are, according to Sykes, 7 maternal clans which most Europeans can trace their genetic ancestry to. I haven't the money to spare on such luxuries at the moment, but I wondered what you thought about the Daughters of Eve theory. Do you believe it? Would you ever pay 150 GB pounds (about 300 US dollars) to get such a DNA test done? | |
