| Mandriva Linux: Recognizing external hard drives | | Excuse me, but i've been interested in free operating systems for a while, and recently today, i've downloaded a new OS called Mandriva Linux, in which you can find and download on this site:http://www.mandriva.com/I downloaded Mandriva Linux One and burned it to my CD-R disk, and it worked! The CD ran the free OS smoothly and easily, and it looks fun to play around with. I also surfed the internet through the OS on the CD, and I even went to MyLot on Mandriva Linux. However, there's one little problem:My Seagate 80GB External hard drive isn't found there.Windows XP recognizes it even though it's been on during boot-up, but not on Mandriva Linux. I want to put Mandriva to the test, and yet I don't know how to find and use my external hard drive ther. It's not my first time I used a free OS. I've used a floppy drive-sized OS called Menuet a few years back, but it couldn't play any media. Mandriva Linux played sounds okay, but its my first time.Is there a way to make Mandriva Linux recognize removable drives of any type or kind? | |
| | Broken Universal Adapter Tip for Laptop | | I got a big problem with my "paralyzed" laptop, a Hewlett-Packard Omnibook 4150, and it also has to do with my Targus Universal Power Adapter or Power Charger or whatever it is people call it. This was before I purchased my third 80GB external/portable hard drive at a low-cost store.Months earlier, I noticed that whenever my laptop's universal power adapter was moved deep at the plug, my laptop would shut off immediately and completely, and I also found it to be completely irritating. It's a good thing I stored ALMOST all my files to my external/portable hard drive, but there were some that I still have in my laptop's hard drive. Today, I tried to find out what went wrong with the tip for my "paralyzed laptop", and found that it was bent and wiggling like a kid's loose tooth. Seconds later, the tip came off completely! Now I already spent a bit of my SSI money for an external/portable hard drive for my desktop PC in the living room, and i'm trying to save as much as I can for moving out of my parents' house. But at the same time, I don't want to spend another mid-sized chunk of money on another universal adapter just to get the same tip. That's not a sound economic move for... | |
