| | Geek Squad! | | Okay so I used to work for Geek Squad how about anyone else? Best Buy is a great company to work for and I know alot of people don't like the Geeks but they are a pretty great service. The main problem people seem to have with them is following the outlined rules of the service agreements and such. Everyone would complain when there damage wasn't covered or what not but if they had just looked into the service contract a little more they would have known...oh well. | | Windows XP and mini laptops....... | | does anyone know how long microsoft will support windows XP? i've heard that they have quit supporting it since they came out with vista and are getting ready to release windows 7. seems to me like they would support XP since it is coming out on all of these new 'baby'/mini laptops now. i'm curious if anyone knows anything about this or microsofts plans on supporting/not supporting XP as i am seriously considering getting an HP mini and dont want to have problems with it 'down the road' and have microsoft tell me 'sorry, its your problem, we dont support it anymore'. also too, i know that XP does not require as much memory as vista does but am wondering if the mini's are upgradable to 2 gig of memory. (i have the need for speed especially since seeing that full size laptops are coming out now with 4 gig of memory! yowza! talk about flying through things with that much memory!!!! | |
| | I have a NEW computer!!! | | It is a $200 acer revo, 900 mgs of RAM, 150 gigs of hard drive, and 1 gigahertz Intel chip. It was $199 and with the roomie's reward's program I got 6 months of Geek Squad free (a $20 value.) All together it was under $220!!!Its working faster and I'm so happy!Got a new printer/scanner/copier too, and cleared off space to put it on the desk.Now, the "grunt" work of down loading all the stuff I need to be "happy", you know, itunes, a few more web browsers and AIM!I may not be doing all I need to do this weekend here, but soon - ZOOM! I'll be faster than LIGHTENING!I'm HAPPY to be able to stay ON LINE for more than 10 minutes!!! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!**see Elic doing the happy dance!** | |
| | Can You Trust Your Computer Repair Man.... I Mean, Really Trust Him? | | After all... we're not anywhere near as clued up as they, when it comes to a problem with our computers. So, what do we do? We give up on the computer and take it to a repair shop, or a computer buff to have it fixed.Well... next time you need technical help... think very carefully about whom you trust with your machine because Sky reported, about an hour and a half ago, that a lot of computer repair shops have been exposed for charging for parts which weren't needed, charging for non-existant work where a problem was easy to fix, and hacking. Indeed, one particular technician was caught stealing personal photographs, log in details and passwords and storing them on a memory stick. Then, he proceeded to try to log into the customer's bank account, spending five minutes doing so. But, because the details installed were faked by a surveillance team and Sky, he was unable to do so. This was quite a clever move by the Trading Standards Office in the U.K., to investigate six computer repair shops, to track their technicians' activities during repair of a personal computer. Surveillance software was loaded onto a brand new laptop, then Sky engineers then loosened the connection... | |
| | The roomie got a new toy | | Yes, a new computer!its got 4 gigs of ram, 250 mb of memorySo, we needed to get it set up, listening to the router (we have wireless) and programs transfered...So, since our usural "geek" was out of town, we called another friend to come help.And that's when MY trouble began!First I tried to plug her new keyboard into mine, but its a usb trying to go into a round hole... so I plugged into the front, but still wanted it in the back. So she brought in a usb 4 port and I unplugged my sender/receiver to plug it in there - seems my other usb port on the back of the computer isn't working righ.Then we had downloaded the program for her sender/receiver and that seemed to have messed up mine! Now I can't get online!then one of the sound lines got unplugged...grrrrrrrrrrrwell, before our friend left, he had us both up and running, but he'd been there since about noon, and it was now about 9 p.m. And he had worked from 7 ish until 1:30 the night before.so, do you sometimes find new stuff makes it harder on everyone?We ended up buying her a new sender/receiver, and a new external drive... ahh well....T | |
| | Obama's Birth Certificate | | I can't imagine how many times this topic has been bandied about on the Lot and so I apologize for another one. Yet I am unable to find exactly what I am looking for so I am posting it again. I appreciate ALL opinions and/or facts on the matter. Not much time left here folks.I am STILL hearing about the issue of Mr. Obama's birth certificate and frankly I am wondering how anyone could get as far as he has without proving, beyond a shadow of a doubt, his US citizenship. I am hearing, "The copy he produced is a forgery" or "He has produced a valid copy", or "Why should he release his BC to the public?" or "Why shouldn't he release it to the public?" etc etc. Does anyone have any factual info on this at this late date?Please keep it reasonable here. The candidates are doing enough in dividing our country as it is. I am not trying to divide it anymore. Thanks! | |
